From political alliances, to ensuring the survival of offspring, marriage has been a fragile and often debated institution. Between 1.8 million and 23,000 years ago, “marriages” often lasted 3-4 years during which the offspring would be raised to a point where they were less vulnerable, after which one partner would leave the relationship and potentially start another family. The institution evolved over time however as humans built agrarian societies. 

Designer Thomas Rush has observed the most recent evolution of marriage through the lens of the current generation and created a literal representation of some people’s marriage. 

The core purpose of the Forever Wedding Band is that it can not be removed once it is placed on the finger due to the barbs that face down and inward towards the wearer’s finger.
